Dunsmuir Fuel Break

Fuels Reduction, Fire safety, and Community Resiliency

A fuel break along the East-side of the I-5 corridor in Dunsmuir in partnership with CAL FIRE, the City of Dunsmuir, the Dunsmuir Fire Department, and Caltrans through funding from the California Climate Investments Fire Prevention grant program to implement fuel reduction projects in critical areas throughout the State.

The Dunsmuir fuel break is designed to create a more fire safe condition along Caltrans Right of Way lands adjacent to Interstate 5.

The falling and chipping work was conducted in November 2021.

Working quickly and effectively, the crews chip the fuels that have been cut down and disperse it back into the forest to decompose.
Post-treatment: A more fire resilient and healthy forest. Easily accessible, defensible space.
