			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p><strong>Living in a Forest:</strong>  How Collaborative Forest Management Can Lead to Healthier Forests and Fire Safe Neighborhoods</p>
<p>Where:  Sisson Museum,  1 North Old Stage Road, Mt. Shasta, California<br />
When:  May 23, 2012, 7:00p.m.<br />
As a kick off to the Rainbow Ridge Collaborative Forest Stewardship Series, The Shasta Valley RCD, along with the Siskiyou Land Trust and Natural Resource Conservation Service, is hosting this free workshop on May 23, 2012, at 7:00p.m. at the Sisson Museum in Mount Shasta.  College of the Siskiyous Environmental Resources program chair and instructor, Jim Ostrowski will draw upon his experience as a forester and as a Rainbow Ridge resident to explore the financial and technical dilemmas that small, residential and private timber land owners have in managing their forests, and the collaborative strategies that may help land owners protect their forests and defend against the risk of catastrophic fire. <br />
Mr. Ostrowski has years the ground experience as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Sierra Pacific Industries, Timber Products Company and Champion International.  As the chair of the Environmental Resources program at College of the Siskiyous, Mr. Ostrowski oversees the three sub programs, Natural Resources, Power Generation, and Sustainable Communities, and serves as an instructor for the Natural Resources program courses.   Mr. Ostrowski is a current member of the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, and in the past was the president of the California Licensed Foresters Association and chair of the NorCal Society of American Foresters.</p>

<p>Coho salmon juveniles may have an easier time migrating out of the Shasta River on their way to the ocean this year. On Friday, the Shasta Valley Resource Conservation District (RCD) and the Montague Water Conservation District (MWCD) collaborated to release additional water from Lake Shastina for a 16-hour period in an attempt to aid the fish on their downstream migration.</p>

<p>Fisheries biologists and geneticists from all over the west coast joined local representatives from agricultural, environmental and government groups Wednesday to discuss the genetics of Upper Klamath River coho populations.</p>
<p>The gathering, dubbed the “Upper Klamath River Coho Salmon Workshop: Considerations for Genetic Conservation and Artificial Propagation,” is being held at the Best Western Inn in Yreka and was organized by several local groups including county government, the Shasta Valley Resource Conservation District (RCD), the Nature Conservancy and the Siskiyou County Farm Bureau. </p>
